Is Nounogram free?
Yes! You play three new puzzles every day, easy to hard, free in your browser and in the app, with no ads. Puzzles that friends share with you are free too. One optional purchase in the app unlocks unlimited puzzles and the rest of the extras.
What is a Nounogram?
A puzzle that is part nonogram, part crossword. You read the numbers along the edges to find the solid squares, and you spell a word into every run of open squares. Each kind of clue narrows the other, and every puzzle has exactly one answer.
Do I ever have to guess?
No. Every Nounogram has exactly one answer, and you can reach it by logic alone. If you’re stuck, ask for a hint. It first tells you what kind of move to look for, then which line, and gives you the answer only if you ask for it.
What is a nonogram?
A logic puzzle where the numbers beside each row and column give the lengths of the runs of filled squares in that line. You fill the grid to match every number and a picture appears. You may know it as picross, griddlers, hanjie, or paint by numbers. In Nounogram you read the same number clues, but you spell words into the open squares instead of leaving a picture.
Do I need to know a lot of words?
No. The daily puzzles use everyday words, and when you get a word list, every word you need is on it. With the unlock, you choose the reading level of new puzzles, from the first words a child reads up to grade twelve.
Can I play in my browser?
Yes! You can play today’s three puzzles, the tutorial, Design mode, and any puzzle someone shares with you at play.nounogram.com, with nothing to install. In the app you also get the unlock, offline play, and handwriting.
Can I print a puzzle?
Yes. You can print any puzzle as a clean sheet and solve it with a pencil. For free, the sheet carries a watermark. With the unlock you print without it, and you get an answer key.
Can I make my own puzzles?
Yes! In Design mode you build a grid square by square and see as you go whether it has exactly one answer. Then you share it with a link that opens in the app or a browser, or print it. With the unlock you can start a design by hand and let Autofill complete it with words that fit.
Is it good for kids?
Yes. Kids practice logic and spelling at once, they can write letters with a finger or stylus, and you can turn on handwriting coaching for feedback on each letter. You choose puzzle difficulty and reading level separately, so a new reader can take on a tough grid.
What does the purchase unlock?
You can generate unlimited puzzles at any size and reading level, play the full archive of past daily puzzles, use all six game styles and mix your own rules, let Autofill finish a design, and print clean sheets with an answer key. It’s one purchase in the app. No subscription.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Once you have the app, you can generate and play puzzles without a connection. In the browser you need one to load the page.
